Terms and conditions
These terms are an agreement between you and The Lifespark360 Foundation ("we", "us"), which provides The Terraformed Life: this site at terraformed.dev and the course at app.terraformed.dev. By creating an account, posting on the forum or sending a tutorial request, you agree to them. Please read them alongside our privacy notice, the Learners' Covenant and the licence.
Questions about these terms: privacy@terraformed.dev.
1. The service
The Terraformed Life is free training: lessons, quizzes, hands-on labs in a personal sandbox, automated grading and certificates. It is free today. If we ever offer paid plans, they will come with their own terms, and nothing you already use will start costing money without your agreement.
We keep improving the course, so lessons, labs and features change. We may also pause or withdraw parts of the service. If we plan to close the course for good, we will tell registered learners first.
2. Your account
- An account is for one person. Give accurate details, and keep your password, your authenticator and your recovery codes to yourself.
- You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission.
- Tell us at privacy@terraformed.dev if you think someone else has used your account.
- You can close your account at any time by emailing privacy@terraformed.dev.
3. Using the sandbox
Your sandbox is a real Linux environment, provided for working through the course. Do not use it, or the platform, to:
- break out of your sandbox, or reach another learner's sandbox, data or account;
- attack, probe or overload the platform or anyone else, mine cryptocurrency, or run anything unrelated to learning;
- get round rate limits, the grader or other safeguards;
- store or share anything illegal, harmful, or that you do not have the right to share.
Sandboxes stop when idle and your files are backed up so you can carry on later, but keep your own copy of anything you care about: we do not guarantee that lab files will be kept. We may stop or reset a sandbox to keep the service running.
4. Grading and certificates
Labs are marked by automated checks, and the capstone may also be reviewed by a person. Certificates say you completed the course; they must reflect your own work. We may revoke a certificate obtained by cheating, by tampering with grading, or in breach of these terms. Certificate verification pages are public, so anyone with the link can see your name, the course and the date.
5. The forum and tutorial requests
You are responsible for what you post, and you must follow the Learners' Covenant. You keep the copyright in your posts and license them under CC BY 4.0. We may hide or remove posts, and lock threads, that break these terms or the Covenant, and we may stop someone from posting.
6. Our content
The course content and software are openly licensed, as set out on the licence page. The licences do not cover our name and logo.
7. Reporting security problems
If you find a security weakness in the platform, report it to privacy@terraformed.dev. Do not test it against other learners' accounts or data, and give us a reasonable time to fix it before you talk about it publicly. We will not take action against good-faith reports that follow these rules.
8. Suspension
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts the service or other learners at risk, or is used unlawfully. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why.
9. What we are responsible for
The Terraformed Life is for learning. The labs run against simulated and local resources; what you build here is not production-ready advice, so use your own judgement before applying it to real systems. We provide the service with reasonable care and skill, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.
We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses: the service is for personal learning. Because the service is free, our total liability to you is limited to £100, to the extent the law allows.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit, and nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell registered learners before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page will change. If you do not agree, you can close your account.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
