The Terraformed Life is open. Use it to learn, teach, run a study group, or build your own course on top of it, as long as you credit where it came from.

The lessons, quizzes and labs are © 2026 The Terraformed Life Authors, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. You may share and adapt them for any purpose, commercial included, if you:
- credit The Terraformed Life and link to terraformed.dev,
- link to the licence, and
- say whether you changed anything.
For example: Based on "State fundamentals" from The Terraformed Life (https://terraformed.dev), licensed under CC BY 4.0. Modified.
The code inside the labs (the Terraform starters and solutions, templates and scripts) is also available under MIT, so you can paste it into your own work without attribution.

The platform's software, meaning the course application, this site, the grader and the sandbox image definition, is © 2026 The Terraformed Life Authors and licensed under the MIT licence. The source code is not published yet.
Who the authors are
The Terraformed Life Authors are the people who write the course and the platform. Each author keeps the copyright in what they wrote and licenses it on the terms above, so the whole project stays under one set of open licences as it grows. Contributors certify their right to submit their work under the Developer Certificate of Origin.

Your forum posts
You keep the copyright in what you post. By posting, you license it under CC BY 4.0 like the rest of the content, so others can quote and build on your answers with credit to you. Never post anything you are not free to share, such as your employer's code or any secret.
Not covered
- The name and logo identify the project. They are not licensed for use as the name or branding of your own course or service, or in a way that suggests we endorse it.
- Third-party tools in the sandbox, including Terraform (Business Source License 1.1), its providers and tflint, keep their own licences.
- Product names such as HashiCorp, Terraform and Cloudflare are trademarks of their owners and are mentioned only to describe their products.
